The Reasons for Breast Liposuction
Many women and an increasing number of men
are looking at breast liposuction as a way of
moulding their bodies to a more desirable shape.
People want to look and feel their best, and
with the constant improvements in modern day
plastic surgery, they are willing to pay the
price. For some individuals, it is a matter
of reducing body fat in certain areas in order
to obtain a better body image. For others, it
is a case of correcting natural body developments
for health reasons.
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction
is the insertion of a hollow steel tube called
a cannula into an incision that is made by the
surgeon in a specific part of the body. Once
the tube is in place, a powerful vacuum is used
to siphon out fat deposits. Depending on the
targeted location, the procedure can be done
either with a localized anesthesia, or with
the patient under heavy sedation. Within a few
days, bruising fades and swelling subsides;
in most cases, liposuction treatment heals well
with little or no scarring.
Who is a Good Candidate for Breast
Liposuction?
The same considerations for anyone
undergoing a medical procedure apply to individuals
undergoing liposuction. The patient would ideally
be of relatively normal weight, a non-smoker
and a non-drug user. Some of the best candidates
for breast liposuction are those with a significant
amount of fat in their breasts. Other key considerations
are age and result expectations. Men and women
with realistic expectations are good candidates.
Most important, patients who choose breast
liposuction for personal reasons of well being
rather than those who do it for the purpose
of fitting in with society’s idea of the
perfect body image often experience greater
satisfaction.
Female Breast Liposuction
During menopause, much of the glandular
tissue in a woman’s breast is replaced
by fat, making her an ideal case for liposuction.
However, women who need to loose more than 50%
of their breast tissue will have to consider
a more traditional surgery. If a woman has large
glands in her breasts, reshaping them may need
a series of procedures, in addition to liposuction.
Consultation with a plastic surgeon is recommended.
Male Breast Liposuction
Breast enlargement in men is referred
to as gynecomastia, a condition whereby males
have a localization of fat in the chest area
and/or excessive glandular development. This
condition can occur at any age, and some boys
are born with it. It can be caused by hormonal
changes, heredity factors, and with the use
of certain drugs. The treatment for men is the
same as for women.
Post Breast Liposuction Procedures
After breast liposuction, the body
begins to heal. There may be slight seepage
from the incisions, which will be absorbed by
the special HK bandages applied by the surgeon.
Depending on the procedure, a compression garment
may be worn for a couple of weeks in order to
keep the body firmly in position. For the first
day, the compression should be significantly
tight, but the patient can gradually lessen
the tension with time.
Breast liposuction is a safe, no trace procedure
with few potential complications. It can provide
individuals with the healthy body image they
are seeking.
